Fishing accessories: high volume, specific demand

Lure molds: soft plastic fishing lures (worms, grubs, creature baits) are poured in molds. Custom mold designs for specific bait profiles, regional bait preferences, or experimental designs are a natural 3D printing application. Molds print in high-temp materials (ABS or ASA to withstand the heat of liquid plastic during pouring). Hard lure bodies: printed hard bait bodies for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and topwater lures. Print in PLA or PETG, seal, sand, paint, and rig with commercial hooks and hardware. Important: 3D printing of actual firearm components (frames, receivers, suppressors) is legally complex and federally regulated in the US. Rail accessories, mounts, and non-structural parts are commercially standard and legally unambiguous. Avoid firearms components — produce only mounting and accessory items.

Game call holders and accessories: friction call chalk holders, call lanyard organizers, call storage cases. Turkey and duck hunters use multiple calls per session; organization accessories are genuinely useful.

Materials for outdoor sporting applications

ASA for all outdoor applications: this is the critical material choice for hunting and fishing accessories. UV degradation is a real failure mode for outdoor gear — a PLA decoy stake left in a field for a season becomes brittle and breaks. ASA's UV resistance makes it the correct material for any component used outdoors in sunlight. Bambu Lab printers print ASA reliably with an enclosure.

PETG for water-contact fishing components: lure bodies, tackle organizers that get wet, rod holder inserts. PETG's moisture resistance makes it appropriate for components that regularly contact water.

ABS or ASA for lure molds: must withstand the heat of liquid soft plastic (typically poured at 150–175°C). PLA and PETG soften at these temperatures. Use ABS or ASA for functional pour molds.

TPU for flexible and impact-absorbing components: net mesh, rubberized accessory grips, protective covers. TPU's compliance is functional for hunting/fishing applications where impact and abrasion resistance matter.

The hunting and fishing community

Sporting goods trade shows: ICAST (fishing), ATA (archery), and regional outdoor trade shows connect you with buyers who purchase for sporting goods retailers — a path into retail distribution if you're producing at scale.

Lure molds: $20–50 for custom soft plastic molds, $30–80 for complex multi-cavity designs. The value is the custom profile — commercial molds for standard designs are cheap, but custom profiles for regional forage matching aren't commercially available.

Tackle organization: $8–25 per piece, competitive with commercial tackle organization accessories.

Hunting accessories: $15–60 depending on complexity. Niche accessories with no commercial equivalent command higher prices — a trail camera mount for an unusual post size has no competition.
