Supported File Types

Print Hive focuses on storing and orchestrating plate-aware 3MF packages and their associated G-code. The recommended format is .gcode.3mf exported from modern slicers. We also support plain .3mf containers.

Recommended

  • .gcode.3mf — 3MF container including plate G-code and metadata. Preferred for repeatable, plate-aware printing and thumbnail extraction.

Also supported

  • .3mf — Standard 3MF container. If plate G-code is present in Metadata/plate_#.gcode, it will be parsed.

Not accepted for model uploads

  • .stl, .obj, .amf — Geometry-only formats. Use your slicer to generate .gcode.3mf or .3mf before uploading.
  • Raw .gcode — Upload the 3MF package containing the plate G-code instead.

Why .gcode.3mf?

Bundling the G-code with the 3MF preserves the exact plate, settings, and visual assets used to produce successful prints. Print Hive extracts thumbnails, plate numbers, and other metadata automatically for fast browsing and reliable reprints.
